High Protein Diet for Fat Loss?

The purpose of a high protein diet for building muscle mass is necessary, I think most people know that. However there are still a good number of people that don't understand the role it plays in fat loss diets. Here’s why you NEED a high protein diet if your goal is to gain muscle mass or lose fat.

Protein keeps helps keep you full-
Protein is highly satiating. Which means eating protein makes you feel full for longer. Feeling full for longer periods of time will cause you to eat less throughout day, putting your body in a caloric deficit which eventually leads to weight loss.

Due to its high thermic effect, protein intake boosts metabolism. The thermic effect is the cost at which it takes to process our food. Protein has a much higher thermic effect than carbs or fats. SO - by consuming more protein, your body is burning more calories by metabolizing these proteins. More calories burned in a day can help put your body in a caloric deficit, leading to weight loss.

We know protein is good for building muscle mass. It is also good for helping to maintain it. When you lose weight, muscle mass tends to reduce as well. However, a high protein diet works to retain muscle mass. The more muscle mass you have, the greater your basal metabolic rate (the calories burned everyday to keep your body functioning). Not to mention, when you lose the weight, you will look strong and full, instead of loose and scrawny.
